What is Facebook Portal?
Stay and feel connected to the people you love most. Portal feels less like a video call and more like you're in the same room - even when you're miles apart. With Smart Camera, you don't have to worry about being out of frame. Whether you're moving around the kitchen, preparing dinner or chasing the kids through the living room, Smart Camera adjusts to follow the action. As more people enter the room, Smart Camera automatically widens to keep everyone in view, so you don't miss a moment. Facebook doesn't listen to, view or keep the contents of your Portal video calls. Calls on Portal are encrypted, so conversations stay between you and those you're calling. You can also completely disable the camera and microphone with a single tap or block the camera lens with the camera cover provided. Easily call friends and family on Messenger - calls can be made seamlessly to and from smartphones and tablets.
- Facebook's video calling device explored
It allows users to video-call loved ones, responds to voice commands and enables callers to stay in the frame while you both stream television shows. And now the device also attaches directly to TV sets. Tight restrictions exist in the Emirates governing the use of VoIP calls, with WhatsApp, FaceTime and Skype calls banned although the services appear to work intermittently in some areas. Users can stream videos, display photos on the screens and take calls. Smart camera technology allows the device to pan and zoom as callers move around. And it has features such as Story Time, which essentially helps users tell stories via video call with the help of filters. The new versions of the smart camera—which were unveiled at an event in San Francisco this week—will also function as a screen on which to stream Amazon Prime videos. In the US, the new-look devices include options of both smaller screens and the screen-less version. The tech-giant has not revealed how many of the Portal devices it has sold since it launched the devices a year ago.
These are essentially video-calling devices that use Facebook Messenger or WhatsApp to call or message friends, family and colleagues. Facebook Portal is a video communication device from Facebook. These are devices that are styled to look like digital photo frames and to sit nicely in your home as a beautiful and intelligent display until the time comes to place or receive a call. The focus of these devices is very much on video calling and "putting people at the centre". Facebook hopes the Portal range of smart displays will help connect more people in your life more easily. They each have different designs aesthetics, but they're both focused on video chatting and meant to make it feel like you're in the same room with the person on the other end of the call.
