If you have been playing League of Legends or engaging within the League of Legends community as of late, you would have seen a very particular buzzword flying around… Aphelios, Aphelios, Aphelios. The latest Marksman to enter the rift has an armory of weapons at his disposal and is proving to become one of the most troublesome, hotly-debated champions to exist within Runeterra. Aphelios was added in Patch 9. Although the complexity of champions in League of Legends has typically increased over the last year, champions such as Sylas attuning the League of Legends community to become more accustomed to complex champion designs, the likes of Aphelios is something that usually resides in League of Legends main competitor, Dota 2. Rekkles implies that almost every new champion that is released becomes a meta pick and professional players are forced to play those champions as they are miles above the older generation of champions in terms of raw power, which has become a consistent theme over the last few years. Riot employee, Nathan Lutz, as known as Riot Lutzburg, gave birth to a new community meme on Twitter while discussing upcoming champion changes with League of Legends players. Why does the ult look the same? Currently, Aphelios ultimate ability has the same animation for each of five guns he possesses, with the only difference being a minor color change depending on what gun he presently has equipped. Mirroring the celestial event that heralded their birth, the two children knew they had been marked by fate—Aphelios physically gifted like the moon of stone, and Alune magically like its spiritual reflection. Zealously devout, they grew up within a faith of mystery, reflection, and discovery, and embraced darkness not just out of belief, but as the only thing that could keep them safe. The Solari who ruled Targon considered the Lunari heretics, driving them into hiding until most forgot the Lunari even existed. The pressure to be exemplary weighed heavily upon Aphelios. He practiced tirelessly with mystical moonstone blades, spilling his own blood in training so he could spill that of others to protect the faith. Intense and vulnerable, he bonded deeply with his sister in lieu of any other friendships. In time, her tasks required her to leave the temple where they were raised. Desperate for purpose, he undertook a ceremonial journey into darkness where Lunari were said to discover their paths—their orbits. Soon after, an ancient temple, the Marus Omegnum, began to come into phase from the spirit realm for the first time in centuries.
Emerging from moonlight's shadow with weapons drawn, Aphelios kills the enemies of his faith in brooding silence—speaking only through the certainty of his aim, and the firing of each gun. Though fueled by a poison that renders him mute, he is guided by See More. Aphelios wields 5 Lunari Weapons made by his sister Alune. He has access to two at a time: one main-hand and one off-hand. Each weapon has a unique Basic Attack and Activated Ability. Attacks and abilities consume a weapon's ammo. When out of ammo, Aphelios discards the weapon and Alune summons the next of the 5.
